Display the country on cards for Places in US & Canada#307

Why not adding the country beside the state or the province for the US and Canada? For example, “Florida, US”, or “Ontario, Canada”. It feels very provincial not to. Besides, it would disambituate between Georgia (country) and Georgia, US (the state).

Hi @Max Cortesi where on the site would it be helpful to see the country added? On the destination guides? Is the breadcrumb component not helpful in disambiguating Georgia the country and Georgia the state?

Hi Nicola,

I’m glad you reached out. I think I’m referring to the destination guides, but I’m sending you a screenshot to make it clear- one from the “Latest Places” section of the website. As you can see, in the entry for the “Thousand-Armed Insect Goddess of Mercy” (that’s a mouthful - lol), the city (Itakura) is followed by the country (Japan). However, in the “U.S. 6 in Nevada”, the city (Tonopah, is followed by the state (Nevada), but not the country (US). In my opinion, it should specify the country as well as the state. And, of course, the issue is reflected in the “More Featured Places” on the homepage as well. Hope this helps.

Keep up the good work,

@Max Cortesi Ok got it so yeah, I think this is an interesting one. Originally the decision was made to do it this way since the majority of our readers are in the U.S. However, as we iterate on the design we are always looking for ways to improve internationalization.

I think adding the country to US and Canada Places would be a helpful addition especially for readers who may not know the states.
