Ensure that Atlas places are obscure#393

?

I have noticed an increase in submissions that do not align with the theme of “unusual, extraordinary, strange, secret, surprising, or otherwise amazing places.”
While I understand that the perception of what is considered extraordinary is subjective, in cases such as the one linked below, there is nothing in the text that indicates it is out of the ordinary, regardless of subjectivity.
The text provides a detailed account of the subject matter, but none of these details set it apart from the many other similar statues outside sports sites around the world, neither in its story nor its style. This is particularly noteworthy considering that the subject and team are relatively successful and well-known in their sport, so it should not be overly surprising or secret.

I apapologize for singling out a specific place, but it serves as a contemporary illustration of my point.

For example, a large amount of statues can be found outside their relevant stadiums, two further alongside Bobby Robson’s in ipswich included.

#296, definitely a very common point on which there’s been a bit of contention. I agree with you for the most part, although personally think that, except for obviously not obscure ones, obscurity ends up being best determined a while after a Place is published.

If, say, a year after publication it has double or more Been Here’s than Want to Visit’s, then it clearly isn’t obscure and should then be addressed somehow.

Surely “obscurity” depends on where you are reading the entry. Regarding the Bobby Robson example there are lots of people outside the UK who would never have heard of him even if they are football fans, the world does not revolve around the English League. The point I am making is that what is familiar to you may well be obscure to lots of others.
